Yes you can take an existing deck and resurface them with synthetic decking.  We took this to a new level by adding Timbertech Evolutions in Pacific Teak with a Walnut colored border.  Note the cable railings which provide minimal blocking of views.  Evolutions by Timbertech includes black streaking within the boards to make them appear like natural woods and they also match the railings.
