Same House, Different Year: Archadeck of Columbus Returns to Plain City, OH, for Next Family

When you buy a house that has an Archadeck of Columbus deck and patio combination, and you want to kick it up a notch, who do you call? Why, Archadeck of Columbus, of course!

Repeat customers are some of our favorite clients. We have three kinds of repeat customers:

1. Those who call us to come back and add more components to an outdoor living space we built for them.
2. Those who have moved to another home in the Columbus area. They want us to design and build an outdoor living space at their new place just as great as the one we designed for their previous residence.
3. Those who purchase a home that comes with an outdoor living space we built for the previous homeowners. The new homeowners usually want to add on to the original outdoor living configuration.

The super-combination project we’re looking at today falls into the 3rd category. We experienced déjà vu when we visited this Plain City, OH, home located in the Glacier Park section of the Jerome Village neighborhood. A couple of years ago we had designed and built a beautiful deck and patio combination with a fire pit for the previous homeowners.

Covered porch with outdoor kitchen

The new homeowners loved the patio and fire pit. Instead of a deck, though, they were looking for a shaded structure – which in this case meant replacing the deck with a covered porch. They also wanted to add an outdoor kitchen and an outdoor fireplace. They loved the work we had done for the prior family. Smartly, they knew they would get the best results if they called Archadeck of Columbus to design their expanded outdoor living space.

Covered Space Allows for More Frequent Entertaining and Dining al Fresco

If you want an outdoor kitchen, and you’ll want to use it regardless of rain or UV rays, having a covered outdoor space makes the most sense. You won’t have to cancel a party or a cookout when rain moves in unexpectedly. You won’t have to stay indoors when the sun’s UV rays are at their most punishing. Covered porch builder Archadeck of Columbus can design an outdoor living space that welcomes you to enjoy the outdoors day or night – regardless of the forecast.

Seating area on covered porch

If you’re worried about the heat, a covered porch has “got you covered” because it provides a ceiling from which you can hang ceiling fans, as these homeowners did. If you want a TV outdoors to watch when you’re grilling, dining or relaxing, a covered porch will protect it from the elements.

A covered porch from Archadeck of Columbus is literally an outdoor room. As with any room in your home, you can fill it with all of the conveniences you desire. Lounging, dining and entertaining outdoors should not be uncomfortable!

It takes many different materials to create an amazing outdoor room

For the porch floor, the homeowners chose TimberTech low-maintenance composite decking. Their selection comes from TimberTech’s Legacy line, and the color they chose was ashwood. For the porch railing, they chose white vinyl with black aluminum pickets and a composite railing cap. The porch interior features a beautiful cedar tongue & groove ceiling. For the outside, we designed a standing seam metal shed roof. The low pitch of this roof was dictated by the presence of second-story windows at the back of the house. We can’t cover up anyone’s bedroom windows! The beams supporting the shed roof are wrapped in Boral, a low-maintenance material.

Couch and outdoor fireplace on covered porch

The outdoor fireplace, which forms one corner of the covered porch, was constructed with wood framing and Hardie backer board, covered with veneer stone for that rustic look. We installed a gas insert fireplace that’s wood burning with a gas starter. The mantel over the fireplace is made of cedar, and above the mantel hangs an outdoor TV for year-round use. The seating walls on either side of the fireplace are topped with beautiful natural stone. It’s almost too gorgeous to sit on! (Almost.)

For their new outdoor kitchen, the homeowners purchased a wood-burning grill. The kitchen also features beautiful granite countertops, a refrigerator, storage compartments and a trash can.

Now we’ve come full circle, first creating a deck and patio combination for one family here and then returning to design and build a super-combination outdoor space for another family. Who knows what the next owner of this home will want? There is still more room in the yard!
